John Van Arragon

March 10, 1925 - June 17, 2021

VANARRAGON, JOHAN (JOHN) Sr.
March 10, 1925-June 17, 2021

After the gift of 96 years of life, John went to be with his Lord and Savior, on Thursday, June 17, 2021.

Predeceased by his first love Sara (1970) and by his beloved wife Hennie after 45 years of marriage in 2015.

John immigrated to Canada in 1952 from his family homestead of Nolde in the Netherlands. John acquired his Masters degree and taught as a professor at Ryerson Polytechnical Institute in Toronto. Providing well for his large family, dad was gentle, soft-spoken, thoughtful and kind. A voracious reader of everything and a meticulous record keeper. Methodically giving to the poorest of the poor and many other charitable organizations close to his heart throughout his entire life. Exemplifying Christ’s love thru him.

John’s foot print on this earth was minimal to say the least. His love of gardening most evident on his front lawn. Flowers and vegetables that sustained him through the winter.
John leaves behind his 12 children to grieve his loss:

Johan was my Dad’s cousin. His presence at our family reunions was so special. He took an interest in all of us. Not long ago I received a long email from him. I will always treasure the memories. Our sympathy to his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, his sister Dien, in Nolde, the Netherlands.

My mother was Johan’s first cousin and as a child as remember frequent visits from Johan. Later, while living in Hamilton we enjoyed visiting Johan and Hennie. Johan was a kind and very interesting man and was blest with a long life. Jim and I send our heartfelt condolences.

My parents Hendrik and Nel van Arragon-Fieten were cousins of Johan, and always admired his dedication to his children, especially after the death of Sara, and his determination to live in a meaningful way. After emigrating to Canada he built himself a remarkable career. I met him and Hennie various times, when they were visiting Nolde. I will remember all the interesting and remarkable stories, and conversations between the counsins about their parents, my grandparents and great-uncle and aunt.
I wish all relatives all the best and I hope they will cherish all the good memories.
