Edward Smereka

February 5, 1933 - March 24, 2019

SMEREKA, Edward Anthony
1933-2019
It is with profound sadness that we
announce the passing of our father
Edward Anthony Smereka, 86 years
of age of Hamilton, Ontario. Edward
was a wonderful man that was
loved, is missed and will always be
cherished. Peacefully on Sunday,
March 24th at St. Joseph's Hospital,
Edward succumbed to his illness,
surrounded by his children. Edward
is predeceased by his wife Lorraine
Rose Smereka (Hazell) and has three
loving children, Keith (Pam) of
Sarnia, Christine (Dean) of Binbrook,
and Colleen of Hamilton. Edward
will be dearly missed by his only
grandchild Daniel Smereka of
Georgetown, Ontario, and his
furbaby Finnigan. He was dearly
loved by his nephew Glen Sheldon
(Smereka) of Stoney Creek and his
cousin Rob Wallace of Hamilton and
many family and friends. A visitation
will be held on Thursday, March 28,
2019 at Clark's Funeral Home
between the hours of 7-9 p.m. M.A.
Clark & Sons, 567 Upper Wellington
St., Hamilton, Ontario L9A 3P9. A
Celebration of Life will be held on
Saturday, March 30, 2019 at 11 a.m.
at Barton Stone United Church at 21
Stone Church Rd. W., Hamilton,
Ontario L9B 1A1. A lunch will
follow. Edward was born February 5,
1933 in Dauphin, Manitoba to Peter
and Bernice Smereka. At the age of
16 he moved to Hamilton, Ontario,
leaving the prairies behind. Edward
soon met his wife Lorraine and the
rest was history. Edward retired
from Stelco and enjoyed 24 years of
retirement. He loved his home and
would often be found sitting on his
back deck, feeding his blue jays.
Edward was a good man, a realist
who was hard-working, loving, a
true family man. He had great
values with a contagious sense of
humour. He was lucky in life! In Lieu
of flowers, donations to the Heart &
Stroke Foundation or Diabetes Society
would be greatly appreciated.

We were saddened to hear of Ed's passing. He will forever be remembered and missed. Our family is thinking you in thoughts and prayers during this difficult time. Jack and Ed are now together and I'm sure are reminiscing of the days when they made sauerkraut and pickles.
