Mort Mortensen

June 29, 1948 - January 22, 2024

Morten Mortensen (June 29, 1948 – January 22, 2024)

It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the passing of Morten Mortensen, who passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Monday, January 22, 2024. Beloved husband of Betty Mortensen, and loving father to Fraya Mortensen, Chantel Manuel, and Starsha (Erik) Bishop. He will be dearly missed by grandchildren Simone, Violet, Maximus, Lillian, and Jonathan along with his brothers, nephews, nieces, and close friends.

Mort lived life with a vivacious spirit and a big heart. He had a sense of humour and was always ready with a joke for any moment. Mort loved music. Freely belting out songs when the mood took him, and boisterously singing until his eyes were “wet with emotion”. Mort embraced the power of unfiltered truth. He had a knack for cutting through the fluff and getting straight to the point, whether you liked it or not. Mort was a self-made man. He was determined, hard-working, innovative, and creative. He “stole with his eyes” to learn the skills of many trades. Mort worked as an industrial machinist at Stelco until retiring after 30 years of service. His favourite past times included a good poker game, boating, or riding his motorcycle on the open roads. Mort’s life was filled with memorable moments and meaningful experiences, leaving an indelible mark on all who knew him.

Family and friends will be received on Sunday, January 28, 2024 at M.A. Clark & Sons, 567 Upper Wellington Street in Hamilton from 2:00 - 4:00pm. Mort was an avid blood donor which came full circle for him. In lieu of flowers please consider becoming a blood donor. If desired, memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Red Cross, https://www.redcross.ca/active-responses.

I have just heard the news. I hadn’t seen Mort for many years, but for a long time he was a good friend. I will always remember Mort’s laugh; his great sense of humour and his smiling eyes. I know that Mort is bringing laughter and great fun somewhere even now. Rest in peace old friend. Say hello to Mom and Dad! Stephen McArthur and Family

It is with a heavy heart, in deep sorrow the passing of my big brother Morty, we shared a birthday 10 years apart, and is the cousin of Vigoo Mortensen of Lord of the Rings trilogy, we spent many years working at the Stelco Caster, l learned so much from this beautiful and amazing man, and we laughed our asses off at each other and the world, at work and play, we always inspired each other, to be the best at our many crafts together, he was a sarcastic SoB and always argued profusely about everything, we always had so much fun sh*ts and giggles, when we were together, we always cracked each other up at everything we did together, my deepest condolences to his beautiful Betty and daughters, Morty will always live on in my heart in my thoughts Rip Morty, my loving brother, hang tight, we will party and laugh together again xo
