Ray Marion Blyth

May 25, 1940 - November 15, 2020

BLYTH, Ray Marion
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our very dear friend and cousin Ray Marion Blyth at Juravinski Hospital, Sunday November 15th at the age of 80. She passed away peacefully with family by her side.
Ray came to Canada after completing the registered nursing and midwifery program in Edinburgh, Scotland, to begin her nursing career in 1965. Ray’s career in nursing started at the Henderson Hospital (Juravinski) as a general duty nurse and as the years passed, she finished her career as the head nurse for continuing care at Hamilton’s St. Joseph’s Hospital.
Ray also had many passions where she made many lifelong friends. As a leader and teacher with The Girl Guides of Canada, Ray travelled extensively with the guides, providing leadership and guidance to all in her charge. Amongst other roles in the guiding organization, Ray was a district commissioner and international advisor. Ray was also a respected member of the Southgate Presbyterian Church parish, where she contributed to the church community as the parish nurse, church elder and choir member, all of which she enjoyed tremendously.
She will be forever remembered for her spirited determination and tireless commitment to help others. Ray will be fondly remembered by her family in England, nieces Mandy (Rocco), Courtney and Jazmine and nephew, Kevin. She will be missed terribly by her Canadian cousins Joe (Betty), Jennifer, David (Camille), Kevin, Cydney and Emma, Susan (David), Michael (Becky), Alexander (Lucas), Julianne (Justin), as well as her countless friends who have shown her such wonderful support over the years.
Special thank you to Laura, Myrna and Charmaine for your undying support and friendship to Ray through her difficult times. We would also like to extend the family’s gratitude to the health care workers who provided great care for Ray through her last days.
As per her wishes, cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held at the M.A. CLARK & SONS FUNERAL HOME (567 Upper Wellington Street, Hamilton 905-383-3323) on Friday November 20, 2020 from 11:00am-1:00pm, a Memorial service will follow, at 1:00pm, in the chapel. Inurnment to follow at White Chapel Memorial Gardens.
In accordance with provincial regulations, there is a limit to the number of people who may attend the visitation, memorial and graveside services. Please RSVP in advance on Ray’s tribute page at www.maclarkfuneralhome.com or by calling the funeral home. My sympathy is extended to all of Ray’s friends and family. I knew Ray through The South Gate Church. She was truly a lovely lady and so kind. She was always thinking of others, despite her own difficulties, and when her health was better, doing so many nice things for others.
She had a way of ensuring that everyone felt included in whatever was happening. And was always more interested in hearing about you rather than talking about herself. She also wasn’t afraid to speak her mind and I loved that about her!
May she rest in peace

I first met Ray when she and her beloved Missy moved into the apartment where I am the superintendent. From our very first meeting I new she was a kindred spirit or maybe she just made everyone feel that way. She had an open door policy with me and I loved walking in and having the best "chin wags" as she would call them, I would put on the kettle and pick a favorite tea cup, and she had many lol, and she would solve all my troubles. She was in the hospital more than she was home and my grandchildren had great fun looking after Missy while she was gone. She was such a special lady who gave a hundred percent of herself to anyone in her company. I am very blessed for having known her.

It was so sad to hear of Ray's passing. Ray and I were second cousins. I remember the day we met when my husband and I picked Ray and Helen up at the HMCS York in Toronto and brought them to my mom's house. We remained great friends after that and had a few excursions here and there (and shopping) around Ontario, Ray will always be in my heart, Love you.

I spent many years with Ray as her visiting caregiver. We had many giggles together. Her love of animals was apparent with all her cat memorabilia. I visited her when she was in rehab at St. Joe's but lost touch when she left. I will always remember her as a mentor and strong support of nurses. She was one of a kind !!!

Ray and I had so many wonderful adventures here in Canada and visiting her great family in the UK. We met when Ray was the President of the Hamilton chapter of the Registered Nurses Association of Ontario. We also worked together at St Joes. Ray was a very caring, competent nurse, who never lost touch with her Scottish sense of common sense.

I knew Ray through our association with Girl Guides of Canada. We also both attended South Gate Presbyterian Church. Ray did so much to help others and be of service. In spite of declining health, she was always determined to take part in as many activities as she could. She personified "Small but mighty".

Deepest sympathy is extended to her family and friends.

My heart felt condolences to Ray'family. I had to the privilege of working for Ray as an RPN on Continuing Care at St Joseph's Health Care and on 4Med. W. We also went to staff functions together during that time. I always admired her spunk. She had her issues, but she never let them get in her way as she served her fellow man. She is one person whom I will remember with fondness. And now she is in our Lord's loving care. Praise God. Blessings to all , Tina Vandenburg, Dundas Ont.
