Albert Horzelenberg

June 3, 1946 - July 3, 2021

On July 3, 2021, peacefully with his loving wife Sonja at his side, Al entered into rest after several years of declining health. He was born on June 3, 1946 in Rotterdam, The Netherlands. Al was the beloved husband of 51 years to Sonja, cherished father to Trevor (Colleen) and Darryl (Jody) and proud Opa to Charlie, Eloise and Myles. He is survived by his siblings; Mary Van Delft, Jane Boonstra, Alyce (Tom) Oosterhuis and Nick (Irene) Horzelenberg. He leaves behind many cousins, nieces and nephews, both in Canada and The Netherlands. Al's passions included family and friends, biking, travelling and music. He put others at ease in social situations by engaging them with his big personality, stories and welcoming smile. He will be dearly missed.

Many thanks to the wonderful caring staff at St.Peter’s at Chedoke (Aspen Terrace) where he spent his last year. A private memorial service is planned for the immediate family. In lieu of flowers, donations to Indwell (www.Indwell.ca), a charity dear to Al's heart, would be appreciated. Online condolences and memories may be left at maclarkfuneralhome.com. Those wishing to view the service can log onto (https://www.etherelive.com/alberthorzelenberg) Wednesday July 7th at 2:00PM. Streaming at https://www.etherelive.com/alberthorzelenberg

Dear Sonja,

We were saddened to learn this morning of your loss in Al’s passing. Although I remember Al from very long ago, we didn’t really get acquainted with Al and you until our vacation in May 2018 when we spent two days at your place. No doubt his passing leaves a big hole in your heart. May the Lord comfort you and give you His peace during this difficult time.

My deepest condolences on the loss of Al. My thoughts and prayers are with you all. Our families were intertwined for many years starting with me babysitting the boys every Saturday. Al was a good friend to my parents. And I enjoyed sunday walks with my dad and young daughters checking out his fish pond.
He will be remembered with fondness.

Sad to hear of your loss. My sincere condolences to Sonya, Trevor, Darryl and families. Al cycled past me years ago in Ancaster, when I was out for a walk with my baby in a stroller... he circled back to chat and meet my baby. Such a simple memory, but very sweet and kind. We will keep you in our prayers, peace to you all.
