Daniel Allen Hierlihy

June 9, 1955 - April 25, 2025

It is with a heavy heart that I announce the passing of Daniel Allen Hierlihy on April 25, 2025. Danny fought a courageous battle with cancer. He was the eldest of three children born to Glen and Julia Hierlihy. He was a loving brother to Colleen (John) and Jim (Sherri). Danny leaves to survive him his 1st wife and friend Linda and his son Allen (Denise), and their children Sommer (Kody) and Dylan, and his daughter Ann (Gary). Danny was best friend and partner to Pat and her children Sandra (Steve) and their children Evie and Alex, and her son Joe. Danny was so proud of all of our children, but there will never be a Grampy prouder of his grandchildren. He was able to watch Sommer walk down the aisle with the love of her life Kody; to witness Dylan come into his own as a talented Sledge Hockey player; and, had the pleasure of watching Evie perform at the Centre in the Square in Kitchener as part of the Grand Philharmonic Children’s Choir, which he described as listening to angels sing. And that leaves our Alex who is just great at being who he is, Alex. Danny leaves behind aunts, uncles and cousins here and down east where our second home and love always was. Danny was a well-known and respected coach at the Lawfield Minor Hockey Association. He was proud to say he had coached and mentored young men for over 39 years and especially proud to be addressed as ‘Coach’ by former players. We retired together as proud members of the Executive. Danny was also a well-known Funeral Director working for the M.A. Clark Funeral Home for over 50 years. Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 1 from 2 – 4 p.m. and 6 – 8 p.m. at M.A. Clark & Sons Funeral Home, 567 Upper Wellington St. Funeral service will be held on Friday, May 2 at 11 a.m. at St. John United Church, 195 East 38th St. He will be laid to rest at Lanes Cemetery in Saint Anns. If desired, donations may be made to The War Amps or a charity of your choice.

Such a nice man. Every year that we saw him while we were doing photos at Lawfield he would ask about my son, Parker. Our condolences to the family.

Very sorry to read this.. such a lovely and pleasant human being. I saw him not too long ago - he looked great - and he made sure to say hello and as always with a glint in his eyes. Danny made everyone feel special and unique. His love for hockey and the boys he coached was second to none. Pat and his whole family should know he was considered one of the very good guys and his presence everywhere will be missed.

We need more Danny’s in this world.

To the Hierlihy family, sincerely thinking of you, Billy Sleep. Played with Danny at the Eastwood Arena with the Funeral Directors. Danny and his defense partner David Morrison were the 2 dirtiest players on the ice, Ha Ha. Rest In Peace, you old hockey puck.

Always enjoyed the banter we had at the rink. As a convenor in Bantam, a coach in midget, or teaching the trainers course back in 2011. I can still hear is voice in the hallway . “Hey Darren, how’s it going?”

My Sincere condolences to all Danny's friends and family. We grew up together and had a lot of great experiences together. We coached a softball team for St. Johns United Church. My "grease monkey" friend that became a Mortician. He was involved in the funerals of many of my family members. Danny had a beautiful soul and I will always remember him.

We had the honour of officiating many funerals and memorials with Dan. Throughout the years our respect continued to grow for him as we saw him work. His competence as a funeral director and his compassion towards the families he served impressed us deeply.

As we got to know Dan, we also learned of his passions - his passion for youth sports, for sports in general but most of all towards his family. He was so proud of all of his family and he loved shared stories about their activities and achievements.

We will always remember and admire Dan both as a person and as professional. We will rest in peace both with his Creator and in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.

Dan’s laugh and smile (through the beard!) was the best. He helped make Josh an even better person and hockey player.
Hugs for all his family
