Alida Zantingh was called home to her Lord and Saviour on Wednesday, August 19th, 2026 at Hamilton General Hospital, in her 92nd year. Beloved wife of the late John Zantingh for 59 years. Loving mother of the late Jane (Pete), Michael (Ida), the late David, Paul (Trish), Lisa (Ed), and Peter (Ashley). Proud grandmother of Dylan, Matthew, Casey, Kimberly, Kaylee, Taylor, Amber, Dennis, Bethany, Jon, Christopher, Jacob, Katherine, and Charlotte. She was also blessed with 17 great grandchildren. Cherished daughter of the late Frank and Jantein and stepmom, Freida. Beloved sister of the late Albert, the late John (Willy), the late Trijntje, Jake (Alice), Jan (Lucy), the late Diny (Wayne), the late Jean (Henry), Thereasa (Jake), Hillie (Fred), the late Janie Jeltje. Remembered by countless nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Alida had many talents that served her and her family. She could sew, knit and crochet, which came in handy with six kids. She would repair clothing and repurpose materials to be used again to save money. When her family began to grow, her husband, John, kept a large garden and she would diligently can all the vegetables to keep throughout the winter. She was also a prolific and inventive baker, coming up with new ingredients to add to her delicious and healthy muffins.
Two things that gave her great joy in life were reading and going for long walks. She loved working with seniors as a nurse aide and was employed at Shalom Manor for over ten years. After retirement, she enjoyed many more years volunteering at the Bibles for Mission store.
Alida’s love for the Lord was evident throughout her life and she will be deeply missed by her family and those who knew her well.
Visitation with the family will take place at Mount Hope CRC, 3076 Homestead Drive, Mount Hope on Monday, August 24th, 2026 from 6-8 pm. As well, a Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday starting at 11 a.m. (Livestream of the Service is available through the link, “Watch Live!” on the church website). Private interment will take place at Millgrove Cemetery.
The Lord is my shepherd.
